Cast Iron Radiators Customer Care Sheets

All of our cast iron radiators are  built exactly to customer specifications and pressure tested to ensure that they are water tight and free from leaks. Mishandling of the radiators can lead to faults. In order to ensure that your cast iron radiators remain free from issues, please read this instruction sheet carefully.

Booking Installation
We strongly recommend that no plumbing or installation work is booked prior to receiving and inspecting your delivery. We aim to have your order dispatched within 14 working days - however this might fluctuate depending on demand. We cannot be held responsible for any fees incurred from pre-booking installers and plumbers or late or delayed deliveries.

Manual Handling Upon Delivery
Please note that cast iron radiators are very heavy items; please ensure that you have sufficient manpower available to unload the pallet delivered to you as the delivery driver is prohibited from manually handling heavy items and will only deliver to the curb-side adjacent to your delivery address.

Whilst on the pallet the cast iron radiator is supported, however once removed the radiator must be carried vertically at all times. The most common cause of leakage is inappropriate manual handling (i.e. dragging the cast iron radiator or carrying the radiator flat without supporting the middle sections) that puts strain on the gaskets and seals. Two short pieces of wood make good handles when inserted between the last two sections at either end. The correct way to manually handle radiators is to keep it upright at all times. Always follow: HSE Guidelines when manually handling any heavy items. (http://www.hse.gov.uk/toolbox/manual.htm). Never attempt to lift a cast iron radiator on your own or drag the radiator.
This will cause strain on the water tight gaskets and may lead to issues with leaking.

Painted Cast Iron Radiators
Whilst in transit minor damage can occur especially light marking or scuffs. We minimise this by protecting the radiator during transit with packaging etc. If a radiator is marked during handling and installation we offer a touch up paint pot to cover any marks or scratches.

Polished Radiators
Full polished radiators are particularly beautiful finish that reveals and polishes the original cast iron surface. This also means that the bare metal is exposed to the air and moisture in the atmosphere. In order to prevent rust spots occurring use a soft polishing cloth lightly sprayed with WD40 and apply to all polished areas. You will notice that the polished finish is applied to the sides front and top of the radiator; the back of the radiator is not polished as this area will be very difficult to treat with WD40 once the radiator is against the wall after installation. This does not apply if the cast iron radiator has been lacquered.

Important Notes for Installation
Cast Iron radiators are not suitable for use on a secondary HWS circuits, they are for use on closed heating systems only! Once installation has been completed the whole system must be cleared and flushed thoroughly in order to remove flux residue and debris. If a chemical cleanser is used it too must be thoroughly flushed from the system. Once this is completed the system must be closed with a good reputable water treatment in order to prevent corrosion. We recommend Fernox treatments as they have been tested and found to be compatible with our gaskets.
Please be aware that not all chemical treatments have been tested for compatibility. It is also important to apply the right amount of treatment to avoid overdosing your system. Please note that system flushing and design must be in accordance with British Standards. (BS5449, BS1990,BS EN 12828:2003 and BS 7593. We discourage the use of water softener on heating systems as this may cause problems with gasket seals. It is critical to be aware that failure to comply with these requirements will void your guarantee. Any corrosion inhibitors must be used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and guidelines and must take into account the metals within your system.
